The Eighth Mahavidya

Maa Baglamukhi — also revered as Bagalamukhi or Pitambara Maa — is the eighth of the ten Mahavidyas, the great wisdom-forms of the Divine Mother described in Shakta tradition. Where the other Mahavidyas embody creation, time, or transformation, Baglamukhi is uniquely the goddess of stambhana — the power to still, silence and immobilise. She is invoked to arrest hostile forces, malicious speech, deceit, litigation and negative energy before they can cause harm, which is why devotees have long turned to her in moments of conflict, injustice or unseen danger.

Form & Symbolism

Baglamukhi is traditionally depicted golden-hued and seated upon a jewelled throne, dressed in yellow — the colour most associated with her worship. Her most iconic form shows her seizing the tongue of a demon with one hand while raised in a gesture of subduing with the other: a striking image of speech and falsehood being stilled by divine will. Yellow accordingly runs through her worship everywhere — in the cloth offered to her, the flowers used in her puja, and the turmeric-based offerings devotees bring.

Sarva Siddhi Shri Maa Baglamukhi Mandir, Nalkheda

The temple itself is known as Sarva Siddhi Shri Maa Baglamukhi Mandir, in Nalkheda, Madhya Pradesh — the name under which it is identified on the temple's own signage. The temple describes itself as a Prachin Pandav Kaleen Siddha Peeth — an ancient seat of spiritual attainment (Siddha Peeth) said to date to the era of the Pandavas.

Why Devotees Seek Her Blessings

Across Shakta tradition, devotees turn to Maa Baglamukhi for protection from enemies, malicious intent and black magic; for strength and clarity in legal disputes and court matters; for the stilling of harmful gossip and deceit; and for steadiness of mind in the face of obstacles. Tuesdays and Saturdays are widely considered auspicious for her worship, along with Navratri and other significant tithis — though the specific occasions observed at this temple, and any local traditions unique to Nalkheda, will be detailed here by the temple.
